Pearson BTEC Level 3 Award in Education and Training – AET
This qualification has been designed for teachers and trainers working in, or aiming to work in, the work-based learning (WBL), further education (FE) and independent training provider (ITP) sectors. It is an introductory teaching qualification that will give you the necessary skills and knowledge to prepare, plan, deliver and evaluate basic teaching and learning sessions in a variety of teaching or training contexts.
This is a Level 3 course and although there are no formal entry requirements you will require a basic level of literacy. There is no requirement for you to have teaching practice to undertake this course. Assessment is via written assignments and observation of a microteaching session during the course.
This qualification was formerly known as PTLLS (Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector).
Course Objectives:
- Identify your own role, responsibilities and boundaries of role in relation to teaching
- Understand appropriate teaching and learning approaches within a specialist area
- Demonstrate your session planning skills
- Understand how to deliver inclusive sessions that motivate learners
- Compare the strengths and limitations of teaching and learning approaches
- Identify types and methods of assessment and their purpose in education and training
- Maintain a safe and supportive learning environment
- Understand and analyse the need for accurate record keeping and procedures
- Summarise key acts of legislation, regulatory requirements and codes of practice relating to your own role and area of responsibility
- Evaluate your own teaching practice and identify areas for future development.
This course is accredited as a BTEC Specialist qualification. Qualification Number 601/0685/2 with 12 Credits.
