ILM qualifications come at different levels, and give you a route that fits both the job someone is doing now, and the job you want them to move into next.
At HWGTA, we run ILM leadership and management courses from our learning centres in Hereford and Worcester, with options that suit different responsibilities and circumstances.
Below is a guide to the ILM courses and qualifications we provide, and who each one is aimed at.
ILM Level 2 Award in Leadership and Team Skills
The ILM Level 2 Award in Leadership and Team Skills is a starting point. It’s for people moving from ‘doing the work’ to ‘leading the work’. As such, it’s appropriate for first-level supervisors or assistant team leaders, as well as those you hope to promote to those positions in the near future.
We deliver this course across three days, available in Hereford, Worcester or at your premises. It covers areas like helping an individual develop themselves as a team leader, improving team performance, and learning effective workplace communication.
ILM Level 3 Award in Mentoring
The Level 3 Award in Mentoring is a qualification aimed at developing practical skills in mentoring (replacing the older Certificate in Mentoring). It’s for mentors within your organisation, those who support new starters, guide junior staff, onboard people into roles or generally work in a role of assisting others without taking over.
At HWGTA, we deliver this course across three days. Learners can complete it on-site in Hereford or Worcester, or at your premises. It’s assessed with written assignments, mentoring records and a reflective journal, and includes a total of six hours of mentoring practice between sessions.
ILM Level 3 Award in Leadership and Management
If you’re looking for a ‘core’ ILM course for first-line managers, this is a great place to start.
The ILM Level 3 Award in Leadership and Management is ideal for team leaders moving up. It’s for someone who already has some management responsibility, such as a supervisor or assistant team leader, but who hasn’t had much in terms of formal training.
Here at HWGTA, a student spends four days at either our Hereford or Worcester learning centres before completing their course. They also get a choice of additional focus areas, choosing one module from sustainability-focused leadership, building teams or presentation skills.
ILM Level 3 Award in Effective Workplace Coaching
The ILM Level 3 Award in Effective Workplace Coaching helps coaches develop people through conversations. It’s designed to build practical coaching skills, including rapport building, running coaching sessions, setting goals, giving feedback and measuring outcomes. As such, it’s suited to employers who want to set up or improve a more tailored personal development pathway through their organisation.
This course takes three days to complete with HWGTA, and can be taken at either our Worcester or Hereford learning centres, as well as at your place of work.
ILM Level 5 Certificate in Leadership and Management
The ILM Level 5 Certificate in Leadership and Management is where leadership becomes more strategic. It’s designed for practising middle managers, such as project managers and department heads, helping them improve their effectiveness in their current role and prepare for senior responsibilities.
It’s an ideal next step for individuals who have completed an ILM Level 3 or Level 4, and teaches them skills in leading people, shaping workplace culture, communicating clearly, coaching others and supporting team performance. Learners apply these skills to their own roles through practical assessment and reflection, with ongoing tutor support to help them stay confident and on track.
This is a five-day course from HWGTA, carried out at either our Hereford or Worcester learning centres.
