MIG/MAG Welding (Mild Steel Only)

The course is designed as a "hands on" approach to these headings and the theory will be kept to a minimum.  Examples from the delegates company will be used to demonstrate. Emphasise the particular points raised and it is intended to use practical examples where possible, thereby making the points more relevant to the delegates.

Overview

  • Safe use of equipment  
  • The basic principles of metal arc gas shielded welding
  • Equipment assembly, including preliminary adjustments
  • Practical exercises to include Butt, Outside Corner, Lap and Tee Fillet Joints
  • Welding technique (Positional)

Objectives

  • On completion of the course, the individual should be able to:
  • Use equipment in a safe manner
  • Choose appropriate consumables and set equipment conditions
  • Produce welds using correct techniques
  • Specify corrective action when faults occur
  • Show the appropriate knowledge, skills and attitude for the effective performance of specified tasks

Assessment

Weld specimens will be assessed by visual examination.  The instructor will provide feedback and any corrective action that might be necessary will be offered
