Feedback Inhibition

Who is this course aimed at?

This course has been designed for groups of 6-8 people lasting a full day (6 hours). The aim of the course is to equip managers, team leaders and supervisors with the skills to give productive feedback, with an emphasis on tackling difficult feedback situations such as poor performance and unacceptable behavior.

Course Content

Role-play will figure prominently with scenarios based on the company’s specific Appraisal system. In each group the HGTA instructor (s) will give demonstrations to illustrate the required standard of professionalism, communication and results necessary. It is far better to practice giving genuine feedback in a safe environment where strengths and weaknesses can be encouragingly addressed, than by making errors in the real work environment where mistakes can be costly.  


The course will be broken into these sections:   1)    What is feedback inhibition and what are its results? 2)    Destroying the culture of silence – clear and consistent communication with regard to poor performance 3)    Effective and ineffective language – what exactly should be said 4)    The responsibility and professionalism of the manager with regard to feedback 5)    Facing, handling and avoiding conflict whilst giving genuine feedback 6)    How to remain task-focussed and not personalise proceedings 7)    Avoidance of feedback shock 8)    Specific examples – specific consequences 9)    Practical scenarios
