Apprentice residential week

Every year we take our first year Apprentices away for one weeks Apprentice Personal and Professional Development residential. We take them to Kilvrough Manor Outdoor Education Centre in Swansea.

The mix of learners across programmes and sites allow for more opportunity to build skills whilst working with new teams, preparing apprentice for going into company of evolving into different roles in their organisations. We split our first years into 2 or 3 groups depending on numbers and they all go during April and May.

We believe the week is vital in helping learners build skills such as communication, time management, leadership, problem solving and all the skills that work alongside their vocational skills to ensure they are a valuable member of any organisation.

The week is action packed with activities from 9.30 am to 9.30 pm. Obviously we feed them along the way.

Our Apprentices will face many challenges, caving, canoeing, night walk and a 2 day expedition over the Brecon Beacons.   The activities are designed to challenge fears and grow individuals comfort zones.   By overcoming and succeeding on residential in a safe and supportive environment we hope to allow them to see that they can achieve more than they think and they can challenge themselves.  Hopefully overcoming those perceived limitations and achieving in their mind ‘the impossible’.

The week is a mandatory part of the apprenticeship programme, we see it as an opportunity to gain vital skills and grow. We also invite the employers to come down for a visit and see what their apprentices get up to, we have a few employers each year that take up this opportunity and so far they have been very good at getting involved them selves and taking part int the activities with their apprentices.
